The main focus from the foundation of Bollin was North-West Morris, and the side has always been a mixed side, having danced men’s, ladies’ and mixed gender dances in the summer. In the winter Bollin always danced Border Morris dances. At the time Bollin Morris was amongst the few very early sides who chose to take up dancing in the recently researched Border tradition. It was a Border dance, Bromsberrow Heath, that was the first dance performed by the side on Boxing Day 1976, pre-dating its first dance out as a North-West side in May 1977. An old list of ‘Winter Dances’ in the Bollin archives includes many dances that the side does now – Brimfield, Bromsberrow Heath, Cheshire Rounds, Kells, Morning Star, Much Wenlock, Pershore, Stockton Heath, Upton Stick Dance and White Ladies Aston. It also includes quite a number that are not currently danced, including the collected dances Evesham and Upton Handkerchief Dance and the Adderbury version of the Cotswold dance Shooting.

After the decline of the North-West side members of Bollin decided to reform as a Border Morris side and began to dance out as such in 2009. New members were recruited and the introduction of a new kit, which made its first public appearance at the Winter Solstice meeting at the Bird in Hand at Mobberley in December 2009, signified a new beginning for the side.

Dancing Bromsberrow Heath at Holmfirth Folk Festival

Bollin Morris and Border Dances Bollin Morris have been dancing Border Morris since the team formed in 1976.
